Expectations

Cocoon House is a service provided to homeless and at-risk youth between the ages of 13-17 and remains Snohomish County's only resource exclusive to this population. The belief that "every child deserves a home and the opportunity to achieve his or her fullest potential" is intact and has not been compromised since the establishment in 1991.

The people involved in this project are there for a variety of reasons and in number total over 1,000 youth, parents, and community members each year. I have made a visit to one of their sites and observed the overall appearance in this structured environment and mechanical guidance that is provided and i approve without dismay. Aside from the obvious speculation of the positive and negative aspects of these services for youth i think people hired to work there should feel an obligation or be compelled to make a difference on some level.

The academic tutoring lessons given to them by me in all school subjects were directed with responsibility and kept with integrity. Not only did i focus on importance of education in my lesson, but also made efforts to show different life skills that may be just as valuable. My reflection on these individuals was appreciated and not mistaken for a self-righteous endeavor. I responded to all that was in question to me with understanding and patience.

Reasons for my involvement are not exact, but indeed definite. I was once placed in a facility much like Cocoon House when i was underage and now seek an entirely different perspective on this living arrangement for youth. Since i am not involved with any personal interest i can be neutral in status and orient my goal to gaining more insight. And of course help those who i can in the process.
